Poetry 147: Letting Go

Letting Go

If you let go
of me,
will I
let go of you?

If I let go
of you,
will you
let go of them?

The illusion of
possesion
is unbearable
when the
chips fall.

Showing up,
standing  up,
loving and accepting-
these are not
requirements.
They are gifts,
generously offered,
or hastily withdrawn.

I see now—
cling to nothing,
push away nothing—
this is not the
better way,
it is the only way
if I am to
live honestly
at the cutting edge
of this bare,
naked reality.

If you let go
of me,
will I
let go of you?

If I let go
of you,
will you
let go of them?

Yes.

-Me

(Inspired by the poetry of Indian-Canadian poet Rupi Kaur)
