Poetry 126: The Feminine Divide

The Feminine Divide

"Lilith consciousness transforms the demon into a goddess...Lilith offers an opportunity for an expanded sense of self. Lilith provides the transformative energy from demon of the night to goddess of wisdom. Her archetypal spirituality reincorporates body and sexuality, freedom and healthy narcissism, restoring psyche to wholeness.  All the neglected parts, the outcast aspects of the psyche are integrated in a creative, resourceful personality...It is only in the wilderness, where the instinctual, dark aspects of Lilith reside, that a woman must journey in order to individuate, to come out of exile, manifest the Self and feel whole.  A woman today, conscious of her dark Lilith, is beautiful, sensual, powerful, and orgasmic. She is in the world mothering her children, loving her partner, and forging a career without dependency or submission."

-Jane Kamerling, The Moonlit Path: Reflections on the Dark Feminine

What will happen
when I accommodate
less?

Smile less.

Serve less.

Will you, who loves me,
like me less?

Like a starved animal,
I crave the darkness.

I have spent
too much time
in the light,
and now,
sunburned,
I must retreat
to find my balance
in the shadows.

The mother hen,
constantly counting
her chicks--
who meets their
need before
the need has even
materialized
in the light of day--
is finally in danger.

(Though not obsolete.
Yet.)

More akin to dormant.
Just as her Kali-like
counterpart had
been for all those years.
But now,
out of hibernation,
this loner grizzly,
more than comfortable
keeping her own company,
is seeking
her own fulfillment
without the permission
of a committee.

Allowing this transfiguration
to sleek, wild eyed
blank panther
who begins her
journey into the night-
devouring her
first unsuspecting prey.

Her maleficence
is magnificent.

Let Ecclesiastes
guide our quest
for truth.

In our feminine divide
(or is it wholeness?),
there is a time for
everything,
including the darkness.
